GARUDA INDONESIA ORDERS MORE 11 A330-300 FROM AIRBUS

PT. Garuda Indonesia (Persero)Tbk (Garuda), has placed a firm order with Airbus for eleven more A330-300 widebody aircraft. The contract was signed today in Jakarta by Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO, Garuda Indonesia and Tom Williams, Executive Vice President, Programmes, Airbus, in the presence of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Pursuant to the agreement, the eleven A330-300 airplanes will join the Garuda Indonesia fleet in stages, starting 2013 until 2017. Currently, Garuda Indonesia already has six A330-300s and eight A330-200s in operation. The published price of each A330-330 is tagged at USD 231.1 million, making the total purchase price for the eleven aircraft USD 2.54 billion. Garuda currently operates six (6) A330-300s and eight (8) A330-200s.
Garuda Indonesia President & CEO Emirsyah Satar said that the orders of the eleven A330-300 is part of Garuda Indonesia's fleet expansion program, which is carried out to increase the airline's capacity and develop the network in its medium and long haul routes. "In line with the ongoing Quantum Leap program, by 2015 Garuda will operate as many as 194 aircraft, consisting of B737-800NGs, A330-300/200s, B777-300ERs - and the A320s operated by Citilink - all aged an average of 5 years. This cooperation also reflects the confidence and appreciation of foreign companies - in this case Airbus - for Garuda's success in implementing a business transformation that contributed to a financial turnaround," added Emir.
Executive Vice President, Programmes Airbus Tom William said that today's purchase agreement for eleven (11) A330-300s furthers the satisfactory partnership that already exists between Garuda Indonesia and Airbus. "We would like to extend our appreciation and compliments towards Garuda's continued success, particularly in the fields of finance, operations and passenger service. We - Airbus Industrie - are very pleased and proud to be part of Garuda's success," added Tom William.
The new A330-300 aircraft are equipped with several features that enhance the passengers' comfort in the business and economy classes. The planes' interior design will also reflect the unique Garuda Indonesia Experience concept.
The order is the third to be placed by Garuda Indonesia for the A330 since July 2010, with the carrier now having a total of 21 aircraft on firm order for future delivery. All the aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. In 2011, Garuda Indonesia has also signed an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of ten fifty (50) A320s for Citilink.
In 2012, Garuda Indonesia will receive twenty-one (21) new additions to its fleet, consisting of four (4) B737-800NGs, two (2) A330-200s, ten (10) A320s for Citilink, and five (5) sub-100 Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft. To date, of the twenty-one aircraft mentioned above, Garuda has already received one (1) B737-800NG and one (1) A330-200 in February. With these new additions, in 2012 Garuda's fleet will reach a total of 105 aircraft all aged an average 5.8 years.
Anticipating on the potential international market, Garuda will soon open new routes from Denpasar to Haneda (Tokyo), effective from 27 April 2012, and Jakarta to Taipei, as of May 24, 2012.
